Hoover Learning Group helps kids gain skills and confidence in their learning abilities through a

multi-sensory, curriculum based approach to teaching. Their programs offer dyslexia remediation/therapy, tutoring, academic coaching, homeschool teaching and support, comprehensive assessments, and more. Their highly trained team holds an impressive array of certifications and experience in the field, in addition to a firm commitment to tailoring teaching styles and truly understanding the needs of every child.

This project started with a major need. Hoover’s exceptional owner, Natalie Hoover, approached me with the goal of revamping their brand. Their old logo just didn’t fit who they were. In Natalie’s eyes, it felt stale and failed to capture Hoover’s bright, engaging spirit. Operating within an untapped identity, their team lacked the confidence to organize and promote events, and they didn’t want to point people to their website. Without the right platform, it’s hard to reach your potential.

All of that being said, when we started working together, something clicked right away. I loved Natalie’s enthusiasm, drive, and dedication to transforming the lives of children. We went back and forth many times on what direction to take the logo, but one day, we struck gold!  (Literally— finding the right shade gold was one of the biggest initial challenges!  But hey, go for the gold, right?!). Having landed on a cohesive vision, elements began to emerge quickly.  Things like….

  1. The proper, yet friendly, cursive font- a little nod to the legacy of education and the practice of perfecting the art of handwriting.
  2. Royal indigo and gold- a dynamic, complimentary duo.  These two colors not only play off each other like crazy— a combination both subtly formal and striking.
  3. The tree- present in the previous logo, Natalie and I both agreed the tree was a great representation of growth and wisdom.
  4. The leaves- related to the tree, we thought natural elements should continue throughout the project. We couldn’t leaf them behind!

After establishing a mood board and getting elements in place, Justin (or justinfordev, we often pair our services) came into the picture and brought everything together on the web. He met with Natalie and they were able to nail down the architecture of the website — the necessary pages that would allow the site to communicate Hoover’s mission, services, and team. From there Justin and I assembled the designs and built a layout for the website that easily translated into a custom, built from the ground up, Squarespace theme.

In wrapping up this project, we ended up creating social media elements and mail chimp template in addition to the visual branding elements + website. It was an honor working with Natalie and Hoover Learning Group, and we look forward to a future of friendship and collaboration.

“Both S and J far exceeded our expectations with logo and web design. They are creative, efficient, and fun to work with. HLG will continue to use their services for years to come!” - Natalie Hoover, Director
